MOON Kyungwon & JEON Joonho’s solo exhibition, Weather Station, is on view at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing in China from May 31, 2024 until February 9, 2025. This exhibition is an edition of Seoul Weather Station, the duo’s project exhibition previously held at Art Sonje Center, Seoul, in 2022, which probes into their recent endeavors to raise questions on our current lives and values through artistic imagination and interdisciplinary cooperation as part of a multifaceted approach to the environmental changes that have come about through global weather phenomena and natural disasters.
For Weather Station, the duo presents their recent works that examine climate issues from a non-human perspective, in particular, to capture and visualize problems related to carbon levels around the world. The exhibition centers around the film News from Nowhere: Eclipse (2022–2024), which had its premiere at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2022). The film is also accompanied by an audience-immersive installation series based on collected carbon data, To Build a Fire (2022–2024), and a participatory platform for discourse production and creative collaboration called Mobile Agora (2022–2024).
Moreover, MOON & JEON will engage in mobile talk programs that will be running throughout the exhibition with experts from different fields to share their insights on our future lives in ever-evolving surroundings. The Weather Station project does not simply illuminate urgent matters of our impact on the planet but also uncovers parts of forgotten history that have been marred by contradictions, suggesting a new perspective to help us perceive sustainability from various angles.
문경원 & 전준호 작가가 5월 31일부터 2025년 2월 9일까지 중국 ‘현대 모터스튜디오 베이징’에서 《웨더 스테이션 (Weather Station)》전을 개최한다. 전지구적 이상기후와 자연재해로 급변하고 있는 기후 문제에 주목하며 예술적 상상력과 학제간 협업을 통해 현재 우리 삶과 가치에 의문을 제시했던 듀오의 《서울 웨더 스테이션》(아트선재센터, 서울, 2022)이 베이징으로 이어지는 프로젝트 전시이다.
이들은 이번 전시에서 2022년 일본 가나자와 21세 미술관에서 열린 개인전에서 처음 선보인 필름 〈미지에서 온 소식: 이클립스〉(2022–2024)와 탄소 농도를 측정하고 수집한 데이터를 바탕으로 제작된 관객 몰입형 설치 작품 〈불 피우기〉(2022–2024), 그리고 담론 생산과 창의적 협업을 위한 참여 플랫폼 〈모바일 아고라〉(2022–2024)을 중심으로 지구의 기후 문제를 인간이 아닌 비인간(non-human)의 관점에서 바라보고, 특히 수많은 문제 중에서도 탄소 배출 문제를 가시화한다.
더불어 작가들과 다양한 분야의 전문가들이 참여하는 모바일 토크 프로그램이 전시 기간 동안 진행된다. 이는 단순히 현재 우리가 지구에 미치고 있는 영향과 문제만 조명하는 것이 아니라 모순과 망각으로 점철된 인간의 지난 역사를 들추어 내고, 지속가능성을 바라보는 새로운 시각을 제안한다.
