Jin Han Lee (b. 1982) is an artist based in Seoul and London. Lee describes the painting as "a space where the artist's personal language collides with the universal language", a medium through which she captures a myriad of experiences and thoughts that cannot be expressed fully in language alone. As seen in work such as Supersaturation (2011), the artist intentionally creates disparate things on the surface to create a space where both Renaissance perspectives and abstract modernist paintings co-exist. In later works, including Landscape with a Spiderman (2011) and Colcano Duck and Three Moo Boxes (2012), the artist combines abstract landscapes with figurative references from popular culture such as Korean pop music, cartoons, and literature. Developing on her work based on the references she has been collecting on the popular culture, the artist starts to incorporate her own experiences and emotions onto the canvas. In her recent solo exhibitions Hello, Hi, Bye, and Hi at Space ISU and Hi, Bye at (Together)(Together), Lee presents new works that portray the emotions of greeting and parting, with a motif of blooming and withering cherry blossoms in the spring. Motifs such as spring, plants, night, day, or feet, which symbolize the world of Lee's paintings appear throughout her works, leaving the joy of interpretation to the viewers. In the process, Lee utilizes mediums such as oil and spray paint to build up layers of colorful, rough but delicate brushstrokes, moving between abstraction and figuration, two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality, hence suggesting a a new method of painting. 

Jin Han Lee graduated from Hongik University and received her MFA from Central Saint Martins, University of Arts London, and Goldsmiths, University of London. She then completed her PhD at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, in 2021. Lee has had solo shows at Nook Gallery (2021), Beaconsfield (2021), Gallery EM (2017), HADA Contemporary, London (2012), and Alternative Space Loop (2012). She has also participated in group exhibitions held at organizations including Union Pacific, London (2023), BB&M (2022), and Space K (2018). She has been selected for Beaconsfield Residency (2021), Windsor and Newton Elephant Lab Residency (2019), The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation Residency (2015), Bloomberg New Contemporary (2015), Saatchi Gallery New Sensation (2012), and received an award at the 33rd Central Art Exhibition (2011). Her works are included in the collections of the Hyundai Capital, JoongAng Ilbo, Sarabande - The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation, and Soho House Barcelona.

이진한은 서울과 런던을 기반으로 활동하는 예술가이다. 작가는 회화를 “사적 언어가 세상의 언어와 충돌하는 공간”이라고 설명하며, 언어만으로는 표현하는데 한계가 있는 수많은 경험과 사고를 회화로 포착한다. <초현실주의자>(2011)와 같은 작품에서 볼 수 있듯이 작가는 레네상스의 원근법과 모더니즘 추상회화의 속성이 모두 존재하도록 평면에 의도적으로 이질적인 것들을 생성하고 하나의 공간이 이질적인 부분들과 모두 공존케하는 방식으로 제작한다. 이후 <Landscape with Spiderman>(2011), <Colcano Duck and Three Moo Boxes>(2012)에서는 추상적 풍경에서 한국 대중음악, 만화 또는 문학 등의 대중문화의 레퍼런스를 결합한 작품으로 발전시킨다. 대중문화에 대해 조사하며 수집한 자료들을 토대로 작업을 이어가며 작가는 자신의 경험과 감정을 캔버스에 개입시키기 시작한다. 최근 스페이스이수와 투게더투게더에서 열린 개인전 <안녕, 안녕 Hi, Bye>, <안녕 그리고 안녕 Hi, Bye and Hi>에서는 인사하며 헤어질 때 느낀 감정을 봄날에 피고 지는 벚꽃의 모티브와 결부한 신작을 선보이고 있다. 이 작품들에는 이진한의 회화 세계를 상징하는 봄, 식물, 밤, 낮, 발 등의 모티브도 등장하며 해석의 묘미를 전한다. 이러한 과정에서 이진한은 유화, 스프레이 페인트 등과 같은 매체를 활용하면서 화려하고 거칠면서 섬세한 붓질로 레이어를 쌓아가며 추상과 구상, 2차원과 3차원 사이를 오가며 새로운 회화의 방식을 제안한다.

이진한은 홍익대학교를 졸업하고 런던 세인트 마틴과 골드스미스에서 석사 학위를 받았으며, 2021년 런던 UCL 슬레이드 미술 대학에서 박사 학위를 마쳤다. 누크갤러리(2021), 비컨스필드(2021), 갤러리엠(2017), 런던 HADA컨템포러리갤러리(2012), 대안공간루프(2012) 등에서 개인전을 개최했다. 런던 유니온퍼시픽(2023), 서울 BB&M(2022), 스페이스K(2018) 등 다수의 기획전에도 참여했다. 비컨스필드(2021), 윈저앤뉴튼 엘리펀트 랩(2019), 더 리 알렉산더 맥퀸 재단 레지던시(2015), 블룸버그 뉴컨템포러리(2015), 사치 갤러리 뉴센세이션(2012) 선정 작가이며, 제33회 중앙미술 대전(2011)에서 우수상을 수상했다. 현대캐피탈, 중앙일보, 사라방드 – 더 리 알렉산더 맥퀸 파운데이션, 바르셀로나 소호 하우스에 작품이 소장되어 있다.
